Since the advent of the post pandemic era, working remotely has become a mainstay in the job-hunting sphere. It is becoming more and more common for people to work from their home or any other location outside the traditional office space.
This is in turn makes it easier for them to manage their work schedules, telecommute when necessary, connect with colleagues effectively and even set up meetings when needed.
Evidently, remote workers in Nigeria are witnessing astounding growth in their respective careers as well as gaining valuable experience working remotely. Companies are now hiring fresh graduates to work remotely which also brings about an opportunity for young people who want to get ahead in life by acquiring crucial skills just from working remotely.
No doubt, the biggest advantage this poses for young people is the availability of jobs which would have otherwise been a struggle given the lack of the relevant years of experience they might possess or the necessary school certifications they do not have.
What Exactly is Remote Work and How Does It Work? (Pun Intended)
Remote work is a work option where employees work from home, and/or any location outside the office. The work can be done using a computer, smartphone or tablet. It also means that you don’t need to commute to your company’s office everyday; therefore it helps with saving money on commuting costs.
Getting along and collaborating usually involves using some form of communication tool such as a video call/voice chat software like Zoom or Microsoft Teams in order for the remote worker to communicate with other team members at their own pace without having to worry about being late due to traffic jams or public transportation delays which happen often.
One of the most common ways people do this is by using a virtual server or using cloud computing services like Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure Cloud Platforms. They can also collaborate and assign tasks on projects using virtual workspaces and assignment tools like Slack and Asana respectively.
What Then Are The Inherent Benefits of Working Remotely?
As earlier stated, a lot of companies now hire fresh graduates to work remotely as this to them is cost-effective; they save on salaries, benefits and other costs associated with hiring someone locally.
These jobs are available in different industries, locations and positions. In fact, there are many jobs that require a bachelor’s degree or higher but offer flexible working hours so you can take care of your family while earning an income at the same time.
It’s no surprise that companies want employees who can provide the best possible service because they know how important it is for their business success.
Remote work has helped job seekers acquire crucial skills relevant to their work future. These include:
· Communication and collaboration skills that are in demand, including project management and teamwork.
· Skills that will help them advance in their careers, such as time management and leadership.
· Skills that will help them get better jobs (after graduation), such as proficiency with new technologies (e.g., computer programming).
You can use your free time to learn new skills, or take a class on something you want to learn more about.
If you are able to find the right combination of remote and in-person learning, it can be an effective way for young workers who want careers that allow them flexibility and development opportunities.
Working remotely is also a great way for young entrepreneurs who want to test out new ideas without having all of those pesky expenses associated with running an actual business; you could even start your own freelance business from anywhere.
The Future of Remote Work
The growing acceptance of remote work as a viable option is a significant factor in the future of jobs.
In fact, there are many who believe that it’s already happening. In an article for Fast Company, writer Tim Worstall notes that one study found that 28% of millennials would prefer to be self-employed over working for someone else, while another research paper found that only 25% wanted to work in an office setting full-time.
Working remotely is a good option for young people as it allows them to grow and learn, while providing them with the opportunity to work in an environment that suits their interests and personality.
Young people are often better at working remotely than older generations because they tend not to have as many responsibilities or commitments on the home front. They can also be more flexible with their time because they don’t have children at home or mortgages that need paying off yet (though this isn’t always true).
In the future, there would be many more job opportunities in the world of remote work. If you have a unique skill or expertise that you can apply to this trend, then it may be well worth considering this option. The benefits of working remotely are vast and vary from having to do more as a result of less time spent commuting, to mapping out quality time to spend with friends, family and most importantly, with yourself.
